What's inside

Three small things, slowly made.

Every envelope is sealed by hand. Inside, a postcard you'll want to keep, stickers you'll want to use, and a letter that doesn't ask anything of you.

  1. 01

    An original watercolor postcard

A 4 × 6 print of this month's painting, on warm cotton card stock. The reverse leaves room for you to write — or to keep blank, as a small page from a year of weather.

  2. 02

    Three or four stickers

Hand-cut motifs from the same painting. A bamboo. A pine cone. A roof tile. Small enough to live on a notebook, a laptop, the back of a phone.

  3. 03

    A folded handwritten letter

A short note from the studio about the place this month's painting came from — what was blooming, what the air felt like, why this scene was worth painting.

The artist

Painted slowly, mailed by hand.

Folded Petal is a small studio run by one painter and one envelope-folder — sometimes the same person. Each issue starts as a walk: a temple roof seen through rain, a pond with the first lotus opening, the way light falls on a pine.

The painting is made on warm cotton paper, then printed in a small batch and signed by hand. The letter that ships with it is written the same week the issue goes out, in fountain-pen ink on cream stationery.

It's not fast. It's not meant to be. It's something to look forward to on the third Tuesday of the month, when the envelope arrives at your door.

— with care, from the studio.
